The word pheromone comes from the Greek and means "carrier of hormones" and is primarily used to enable individuals of different species, for example in the animal kingdom, to communicate with each other. Pheromones can also influence who you fall in love with. We find the scents of people who have genes that are as opposite as possible attractive. This also makes sense in terms of evolutionary biology, as it increases the likelihood of bringing healthy children into the world.
Who women can smell good is often determined by their menstrual cycle phase. Female hormones influence how women perceive scents and therefore which men they find attractive.
