The right fragrance can make a big difference. It not only completes your style and reflects your personality, but also influences how you are perceived by those around you. However, if you don't use your favorite fragrance correctly, it won't be able to unfold its full potential. That's why we explain here how to apply your perfume correctly and enjoy an optimal fragrance experience.
Many people are not even aware that perfume can be applied incorrectly. However, the correct application of a fragrance can have a major impact on how it develops and how long the perfume lasts on the skin. So that you can fully exploit the potential of your favorite fragrance, we explain what you should pay attention to when applying perfume.

THE RIGHT AMOUNT
As in many other areas of life, the same applies when applying perfume: less is more. Especially if you use your fragrance every day, it can quickly happen that you don't even realize how intense the scent actually is. It is also often impossible to immediately assess how strong the fragrance will be in the hours that follow immediately after applying the perfume. In addition, a perfume only develops its different nuances after it has been applied. This is because fragrances generally consist of a top note, a heart note and a base note, which are also known as the fragrance pyramid and determine how a perfume smells immediately after application and in the hours that follow.
Using the right amount of perfume is particularly important if you are wearing a perfume with a higher fragrance concentration. You can recognize this by the type of perfume, among other things. There are more fragrance molecules in an eau de parfum than in an eau de toilette, for example. So while a certain amount of eau de toilette provides a pleasant fragrance, the same amount of eau de parfum can create a veritable cloud of fragrance, which can quickly be perceived as too strong and unpleasant by the other person. So always make sure that you use the right amount of perfume.
THE OPTIMAL BODY PARTS
Probably the best-known place to apply perfume is the wrists, especially for women. This is not wrong in principle, but there are also many other parts of the body that are suitable for applying perfume. As a general rule, perfume should always be applied to the skin, but not to clothing. There are various reasons for this. On the one hand, the body temperature helps the fragrance to develop optimally. In addition, perfume also lasts much longer on the skin, as the fragrance molecules attach themselves to the so-called lipids, i.e. the fatty substances of the skin. If you generally tend to have dry skin, it is also worth applying a rich lotion beforehand so that your favorite perfume lasts even longer.
In addition to the wrists, the areas of the body that are particularly well supplied with blood, where you can feel your pulse and which are generally not covered by your clothing are also well suited for applying your perfume. For example, the décolleté, earlobes and the area behind the ears as well as the neck are the best places to apply perfume. Make sure to spray the perfume from the bottom upwards, as the fragrances usually rise upwards.
A particularly common habit, which probably affects many perfume users, is applying the fragrance directly before leaving the house. Although the fragrance is still particularly fresh this way, it doesn't last as long. So that you can enjoy your fragrances over a longer period of time, it is advisable to apply them directly after showering or bathing. At this time, your pores are particularly dilated so that the fragrances can settle better and thus develop their effect for longer.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY AVOID
In addition to tips on how to use your perfume correctly, there are of course a few things you should avoid at all costs. These include some common habits that you should definitely avoid. So that you can enjoy your perfume to the fullest and enjoy your favorite scent for as long as possible, we show you the most popular mistakes when using perfume here.
RUBBING IN THE PERFUME
One of the biggest faux pas is rubbing the perfume in. This is a popular mistake, especially when used on the wrists, and can severely impair the intensity of the fragrance. The friction damages the molecules that are responsible for the development of the fragrance. So instead of obtaining an even more intense fragrance, the perfume is merely weakened by this process.
THE WRONG STORAGE
The fact that it is best to apply a fragrance directly after a shower or bath suggests that the bathroom is probably the best place to store your perfumes. If you have also come to this conclusion, you are far from it. The high humidity that prevails in the bathroom, especially after showering, makes it rather unsuitable for storing your perfume. Instead, a dark and dry room, such as the bedroom, is a much better choice.
SPRAY THE PERFUME ON YOUR HAIR
Applying a perfume close to your head makes a lot of sense at first. After all, you want the other person to be able to perceive the pleasant scent. For this reason, there are always people who spray their favorite perfume on their hair instead of their neck, décolleté or wrists.
Although it may sound like a good idea at first, spraying perfume on your hair has some problems. The ingredients of the fragrances in particular are a cause for concern, as perfumes consist largely of alcohol and can quickly dry out the hair. At the same time, the contents of the fragrances can also pose a major problem for dyed hair, as in some cases this can even lead to interactions that can permanently change the color. So it's better to stick to the regular application on the skin and simply get a perfumed shampoo for pleasantly scented hair.
Applying your favorite perfume correctly can have a big impact on the overall fragrance and its longevity. However, if you follow our tips and notes, you can enjoy your perfumes for a long time to come.
